Meet the BKA 2016 Board


Tony Cova

Tony was born in Seoul, South Korea and adopted at the age of 3 months. He was raised in a suburb outside St. Louis, MO. Tony moved to Boston in 2010 for work and is currently serving as in-house counsel to a biotech company in Cambridge, MA.

Tony joined the Board in 2013 as a Board Member and has been a member since the summer of 2009. That summer he was in Boston for an internship and found BKA through an internet search. He first traveled back to Korea in 2003 through a summer study-abroad program. Since then, he has gone back multiple times to visit friends and family and has also worked in Seoul as a scientist. However, he has yet to attend “The Gathering” and looks forward to attending in 2016.

Tony is thankful to past BKA leaders for creating this space and looks forward to what this Board can accomplish in the coming years.
Sarah O'Neill

Sarah was born in Busan, South Korea.  She has lived in New England her entire life. Sarah received her MBA from Bentley University with a dual concentration in Information and Process Management & Business Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility and her Bachelor’s Degree from Smith College in East Asian Languages & Literatures.  She has worked in Higher Ed administration for over three years and also has prior work experience in Retail HR.

Sarah joined the Board in 2007 and has previously served as Secretary-Clerk, Treasurer and Webmaster. She was first introduced to BKA when she attended a BKA panel at a local adoption conference and became a member in 2005. Sarah spent a semester during her junior year studying at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea and has visited a few times since as well.

In addition to serving on the Board, Sarah has also been involved in the BKA website, workshop and scholarship review committees, event planning, curriculum development and has spoken on panels and co-facilitated workshops. She previously served on the Board of Directors for the Adoption Community of New England (ACONE).

Danielle Godon-Decoteau

Danielle was born in Seoul, South Korea and adopted when she was 3 months old. She grew up in a small town in western Massachusetts. Danielle is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in clinical psychology at UMass Boston, where her research is focused on transracial adoption.

Danielle joined the Board in 2014. Danielle discovered BKA while researching adoption and the adoptee community, which opened the door for her to start exploring her own identity. Danielle has found great joy in connecting with other adoptees and has returned to Korea twice since 2013.

In addition to serving on the Board, Danielle has presented at adoption conferences and published academic research on Korean adoptees. She plans to continue researching adoption and hopes to serve adoptive/birth families in her future clinical work.
Laura Knuttunen

Laura was born in Chuncheon, South Korea, and adopted when she was four and a half months old. She grew up in Watertown, Massachusetts, with her younger sister who is also adopted from Korea. Laura studied Urban and Environmental Policy at Occidental College in Los Angeles. She then lived in Korea for two years, teaching English at an elementary school in Gimcheon and Cheongju. Laura returned to Boston and received a M.Ed. in Elementary and ESL Education through Lesley University. She currently teaches a 4th and 5th grade SEI class in Boston.  


Laura joined BKA when she returned from Korea in 2010 and joined the Board in 2013. She is interested in collaborating with other adoptee and Asian Pacific Islander organizations. 

In addition to serving on the Board, Laura volunteers with the Tufts University Korean Student Association as a mentor for Korean adoptee kids. She helps organize monthly events with BKA members, local Korean college students, young Korean adoptees and their families. 

Breanne Wagner

Breanne was born in Seoul, South Korea and was adopted when she was 2 months old. Breanne grew up outside of Denver, Colorado. She has lived in several places around the country and the world, including in Seoul, and has resided in Boston for nearly three and a half years. Breanne works as a project manager in the life sciences industry.

Breanne joined the Board in 2014. She first discovered BKA through an internet search when she was moving to Boston in 2011. She was involved with adult Korean adoptee organizations in Washington D.C. and in San Francisco. Breanne first visited Korea in 2008 for a three month Korean language fellowship at Ewha Womans University. During that trip, Breanne met her biological family and has returned to Korea twice.

Breanne grew up attending a Korean culture camp in Winter Park, Colorado. She has taken several Korean language courses and has been a conversation partner to Korean students at EC Boston for two years.

Jenny Lee

Board Member at Large

Jenny was born in Incheon, South Korea and adopted at 3 months. She grew up in Glastonbury, Connecticut and got a B.A. from Vassar College, in New York. In 2004 she moved to Boston for graduate school, where she has recently completed a Ph.D. in Virology at Harvard.

Jenny joined the Board in 2014. After a 3 day trip to Seoul in July of 2014, she returned to Boston wanting to learn more about Korea. She found BKA online and was just in time to attend the BKA Anniversary Conference.

In addition to serving on the Board, Jenny is a member of KADtalk and volunteers with the
Tufts University Korean Student Association as an adviser and mentor for young Korean adoptees.
 Becky Kay
Membership Manager,
Board Member at Large

Becky came from Daegu, South Korea and was adopted at the age of 2. She was raised in Michigan and moved with her family to Connecticut when she was a teenager. She moved to Boston in 2011 and works as an Executive Assistant in Finance.  

Becky joined the Board in 2014.  In the summer of 2014 she began exploring her Korean heritage and found BKA through an internet search.  She is planning on taking her first trip back to Korea in June of 2015.

In addition to serving on the Board, Becky is an active member of KADtalk, takes Korean language lessons at MIT and volunteers with the Tufts University Korean Student Association as an adviser and mentor for young Korean adoptees.
