The session, co-sponsored by BKA and the Korean Consulate of Boston and led by Dr. Jason Reynolds, seeks to help adoptees reflect and gain further insight into personal experiences navigating adoptive names and birth names, how receiving an Anglicized name may affect identity and experiences over the course of one’s life, and how reclaiming birth names may be influential to one’s development. In addition, findings will be discussed from three separate qualitative research studies focused on names and identity for transracial Korean American adoptees, transracial Korean adoptees placed internationally, and transracial Chinese American adoptees.
